Hey Thrivers! Since we’ve stepped into this new season of Fall (which is my absolute favorite!) I wanted to share some of my tips for a Fall self care day at home. I definitely appreciate the season change when the weather gets a little cooler and the leaves change. I will admit, New York weather during the Fall can be very unpredictable at times, but so far it’s been enjoyable. I’m a sucker for all the new Fall decor too. I think the colder weather also just makes me enjoy a self care day at home even more. I’m a little biased because my birthday is in October so I feel like I get to enjoy the season change and entering a new chapter when my birthday rolls around. Not to mention the fun holidays! I’m always dressing up for Halloween and trying to make it more fun for my nieces and nephew. With the Fall season, I do like to change up my routine a little and get in a self care day at home as much as I can. Here are some of my favorite tips to enjoy a fall self care day at home!
Quick Declutter – I think one of the best things to do during the start of the season is to take some time to either re-organize your space or declutter things that aren’t being used. I always recommend this any time of year but I think it’s more fun and meaningful to do so when entering into a new season. I think subconsciously it makes me feel like I really have my shit together. Maybe you want to get rid of extra clothes you’re not using, or declutter your kitchen space. Choose one area that is not too large to tackle and that you feel like needs a change.
Out with the old, in with the new – I think there is nothing more uplifting than changing up your environment to feel inspired again. With the season change I enjoy making changes around the house to include fall decor and darker colors to make my space feel more cozy. I start burning more candles. I’m not too crazy about some of the warmer pumpkin scents unfortunately, but I do think lighting candles makes a space feel more inviting and warm. Even making a few small changes makes a big difference.
Skin-care – I know for me, as soon as the weather changes, my skin becomes so dry. As I get older, my skin is more prone to dryness. So I will usually update my skincare routine to include more oils, serums, and a moisturizer with a thicker consistency. It helps because then my skin adjusts and my skin doesn’t feel as dry when the colder months hit.
Activities – It’s important to carve out time doing things you enjoy with your loved ones. I love watching movies during the Fall season. I enjoy watching Halloween movies with my nieces and nephew. We’re having a Halloween party this year with just our close family. I know this time of year is big for apple picking, pumpkin picking, haunted houses, etc. I recently went to Hallowfest at Six Flags this year which was a lot of fun as well. I’m not a big roller coaster person so it was definitely an experience! Taking out time to do these things is important because I think it grounds us and reminds us to live in the present and appreciate those moments.
Update my wardrobe – Needless to say if you live in a place like New York, you will need to change up your wardrobe to cater to the colder weather. But as you’re possibly decluttering, it’s also nice to check in and see if you need to make any updates or changes to your wardrobe. I find at times that since I’m constantly decluttering, I do sometimes need to update my wardrobe. Not only is it necessary but it also makes me look forward the season change.
Let it go – These were just a few of my tips for self-care this fall season to help you feel more inspired! The biggest takeaway I always remind myself is that Fall reminds us how beautiful it is to let things go. So I highly recommend that you take a moment to think about all the things that have been blocking you, whether that’s your current habits, your overfilled closet, your messy environment, your circle of friends, your negative thoughts, anything. Choose this season to release that negativity and those roadblocks.
